we just want everyone to have a good time. here's what you agree to when you play.
Updated as of October 29, 2026
Please read this carefully. It includes an assumption of risk, a release of liability, and a promise not to sue. By submitting the waitlist form, or by joining any club activity, you agree to it. If you don't agree, please don't take part.
1. What the club is
The Bay Lawn Club ("the club") is a free, informal, social group of people who play tennis together in San Francisco. It is organized by Krrish Ghindani and helped along by volunteers. It is not a business, a company, a licensed facility, or a professional tennis program. Nobody is paid, and there are no employees, coaches, or staff on duty unless we say otherwise for a specific event.
The club is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, the Goldman Tennis Center, the USTA, or any other organization, venue, or brand. In these terms, "Organizers" means Krrish Ghindani, The Bay Lawn Club, and anyone who volunteers, hosts, or helps run it.
2. Taking part is voluntary
Joining is free and entirely your choice. You can stop at any time. The club can change, move, or cancel any morning at any time, including for weather, and there's no guarantee of a spot, a particular partner, court, time, or level of play.
3. Risks of tennis, and you accept them
Tennis is a physical sport, and playing it carries real risks, some of which can't be removed without changing the game. They include, among others:
- sprains, strains, pulled muscles, tendon and joint injuries, fractures, and overuse injuries;
- being hit by a ball, a racket, or another player; collisions, slips, trips, and falls;
- eye injuries, concussions, and head injuries;
- heart problems, heat exhaustion, dehydration, sunburn, and cold;
- wet, uneven, worn, or poorly lit surfaces; nets, posts, fences, benches, and debris;
- the conduct of other players, spectators, and members of the public in a public park;
- travel to and from courts and any other venue;
- loss of, theft of, or damage to your belongings;
- and, in rare cases, serious injury, permanent disability, or death.
You understand these risks and voluntarily accept all of them, whether or not they're listed here, for every club activity you take part in.
4. Your health is your responsibility
You confirm that you're physically able to play, and that you'll check with a doctor if you have any doubt. You'll warm up, stay hydrated, wear proper court shoes, and stop playing if you feel unwell or are hurt. You won't play while impaired by alcohol or drugs. The Organizers are not medical professionals and don't screen anyone's fitness or health.
In an emergency, you agree that the Organizers or others may call emergency services or give basic first aid on your behalf. They have no duty to do so, and you're responsible for any resulting costs, such as ambulance or hospital bills.
5. Release of liability and promise not to sue
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release, waive, and discharge the Organizers, and the other members and participants, from any and all claims, demands, losses, and liability for any injury, illness, death, property loss, or damage arising out of or related to the club or any club activity, including claims caused by the ordinary negligence of anyone released. You agree not to sue any of them for these claims.
This release covers you, your heirs, family, and anyone who might make a claim on your behalf. It does not apply to gross negligence, willful misconduct, or anything else that the law doesn't allow to be released.
6. Indemnity
You agree to cover the Organizers for any claims, costs, or damages (including reasonable legal fees) brought by anyone because of your own conduct, your breach of these terms, or your guests.
7. Other people, introductions, and "the after"
The club exists to help interesting people meet. But the Organizers do not run background checks, verify anyone's identity, credentials, job, or claims, or vouch for any member. Use your own judgment, as you would meeting anyone new.
- Any conversation, introduction, friendship, business dealing, job, investment, deal, or other relationship that comes out of the club is entirely between you and the other person. The Organizers aren't a party to it and aren't responsible for it.
- Nothing said at the club, by the Organizers or by members, is professional, financial, legal, medical, or investment advice.
- Anything people do after playing, such as getting food or drinks together, is optional, informal, and not a club activity. It's at your own choice and risk, and you're responsible for your own conduct, including around alcohol.
8. How we treat each other
Be kind, honest, and safe. Respect everyone regardless of who they are or how well they play. No harassment, discrimination, threats, unwanted advances, or unsafe play. Don't sell, pitch, or recruit people who haven't asked. Follow the rules of whatever venue we're at, including the Goldman Tennis Center and San Francisco Recreation and Park rules, and leave courts as you found them.
The Organizers may ask anyone to leave a morning, or remove anyone from the club or waitlist, at any time and for any reason, without having to explain.
9. Your belongings
You're responsible for your own racket, balls, bag, phone, car, bike, and anything else you bring. The Organizers are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage.
10. Bringing guests
Please don't bring someone along without checking first. If you do bring a guest, you're responsible for them and for making sure they've read and agreed to these terms.
11. Photos
Photos are sometimes taken at mornings. We only post or tag people who say yes. If you say yes, you let the club use those photos to share and promote the club, without payment. You can change your mind at any time and we'll take them down, though we can't control copies others have already shared.
12. The website
This website and everything on it are provided "as is." We try to keep it accurate, but times, places, and details can change, and we don't guarantee that the site is error-free or always available. Links to other websites, such as Google Maps, are for convenience; we're not responsible for them. How we handle your information is covered in our Privacy Policy.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Organizers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, and their total liability for anything related to the club or this site will not exceed $100. The club is free, and these limits reflect that.
14. General
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco, California.
- These terms are meant to be as broad as California law allows. If any part is found unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest stays in effect.
- We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated. Continuing to take part after a change means you accept the new terms.
- These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and the club about taking part.
15. Your agreement
By submitting the waitlist form, or by taking part in any club activity, you confirm that you've read these terms, understand them, are legally able to agree to them, and agree to them freely, including the assumption of risk and the release of liability. You're giving up substantial rights by agreeing, including the right to sue.
